In what could be described as one of the biggest animation deals this year, Disney+ announced that it’s secured a global distribution deal with The Pokémon Company, which finally brings original and classic Pokémon content to the streaming service.
As such, the partnership’s flagship project takes the form of “Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu,” a new stop-motion series from Aardman Animations. Scheduled for release in 2027, the show will make its debut on Disney XD before streaming exclusively on Disney+. The series follows the unlikely duo of Sirfetch’d and Pichu throughout different adventures, new rivalries, and comedic mishaps along the way.

Additionally, the distribution agreement is already in effect with the arrival of the classic “Pokémon the Series: The Beginning.” The legacy show following Ash and Pikachu’s first adventures began airing on Disney XD earlier this month and is currently available to stream on Disney+ in the U.S. and select international markets.
