It was this year that Samsung introduced the Privacy Display feature on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. According to reports, the brand is now planning to expand the technology to more devices and the Galaxy S27 Pro is included.

Furthermore, reports show that the Galaxy S27 lineup will comprise five models: Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, Galaxy S27 Pro, Galaxy S27 Ultra, and Galaxy S27 FE. However, it’s expected that four of these phones will launch early next year. There’s the possibility that the FE model will launch in mid-2027.

Also, a new report from South Korean publication ETNews reveals that the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra will share many flagship-grade specifications. They include: a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 processor, a 200MP primary camera, a 16MP front-facing camera, and an OLED panel equipped with both Privacy Display and Color Filter-on-Encapsulation (COE) technology. The Galaxy S27 and the Galaxy S27+ will reportedly not have Privacy Display.

What Privacy Display is and how it works

The Privacy Display relies on Samsung Display’s Flex Magic Pixel (FMP) OLED panels, which incorporate a tall black matrix over half of the pixels. The matrix acts as a barricade that prevents light emitted by the pixels from travelling sideways and effectively restricting viewing angles. Users can toggle the feature on or off across the entire screen or apply it selectively to specific apps and notifications.

Moreover, COE eliminates the traditional polarizer layer by integrating polarization into the thin-film encapsulation. Thus, removing the polarizer frees up vertical space. This enables Samsung Display to stack the taller black matrix required for FMP technology.

Samsung also plans to bring Privacy Display technology to future Galaxy Book laptops, but the exact launch timeline remains unknown.
