An official announcement has come from Meta regarding two new pairs of smart glasses at Meta Connect 2026. The brand unveiled its first camera-free, audio-only Ray Ban Meta Audio, along with a new pair of virtual reality glasses known as Meta VR Glasses.
Furthermore, the Meta VR Glasses use a two-part system, with the glasses housing the display and sensors, while a connected puck handles the computing and houses the storage and battery as well. Also, the glasses are connected to the puck via an optical cable.
Also, the glasses weigh 100 grams and feature micro OLED displays with 5K resolution and 37 pixels per degree, along with support for Dolby Vision. The frames house the speakers, which support Dolby Atmos spatial audio. With the built-in sensors, users can control the glasses using eye movements as well as hand gestures. The Meta VR Glasses are powered by the newly announced Snapdragon Reality Elite chipset and are claimed to offer up to three hours of usage with the connected puck. The puck itself supports 45W fast charging.
Moreover, the virtual reality glasses are IMAX Enhanced certified and support 3D movies, as well as games through Xbox Cloud Gaming. Then again, the Meta VR Glasses will still feature Hologram Calling, which is claimed to create a photorealistic representation of the user for video calls, complete with real-time facial expressions and reactions.
Note that the Meta VR Glasses will be available in Spring 2027, beginning at $1,299 in the US. Meta also announced its first camera-free smart glasses, the Ray-Ban Meta Audio. The new audio-only glasses weigh 43 grams and are claimed to deliver up to 12 hours of usage on a single charge, and up to 48 hours with the charging case.
However, the smart glasses are available in 23 colour and lens combinations in new Clubmaster and Burbank styles. The Ray-Ban Meta Audio glasses are priced at $349. They’ll go on sale from the 13th of October, 2026.
