EA Sports FC 27 drops on 25 September 2026, and after years of incremental updates, this latest one still manages to keep me excited – especially with all the gameplay improvements. To be honest, I mostly play EA FC on the couch with friends, rather than playing the single player or online. So any gameplay, animation, and graphical updates are great.
But this time, EA really hears the community feedback. For a start, EA is pulling back the AI assistance across nearly every facet of gameplay. AI-controlled defenders will no longer automatically attempt to win the ball. They’ll hold shape and support the play, leaving it to the human player to decide when to tackle. That alone is massive and give the skill back to the player. If you’ve ever conceded a goal and couldn’t tell whether it was your fault or the AI just decided to leave a gap, you’ll understand why this matters. Plus, no more penalty kicks where you are sure that it wasn’t you.
Manual defenders now have increased jockey speed and a wider range on stand tackles compared to FC 26, which means the skill gap between good defenders and passive ones should actually show up in results. That’s the kind of change that makes competitive play feel legitimate rather than a coin flip.
Corners are getting a complete overhaul too. After targeting your delivery area, the camera shifts to the box and gives you a brief window to move players, make runs, or use a new Avoidance mechanic to jostle for position before the ball arrives. No more auto-positioning or pure luck. You’ll need to time your run and attack the ball yourself. Sure, this means the corner kick is a few seconds longer but I think we can live with that.
Crossing has also been reworked so the ball goes into space more often rather than locking onto a specific player, with your aim and power now having a much bigger impact on delivery. Combined with off-balance dribbling for agile players where elite dribblers can maintain control even after a shoulder challenge. So it sounds like EA FC 27 is finally rewarding individual skill rather than just stat advantages and PlayStyle stacking.
Speaking of PlayStyles, EA has rebalanced quite a few of them to close the gap between PlayStyle+ holders and players with strong base attributes. Finesse Shot, Rapid, Quick Step are all toned down. The goal is for both PlayStyles and Attributes to have a meaningful impact without either feeling overpowered. We’ll see if the balance holds post-launch patches, but at least the intention is right.
The big new addition is The Grounds, a social football playground where players can move their avatars freely, take on Kickabouts, 1v1s, and Clubs content, and interact with other players in real time. It’s EA’s answer to the “game beyond the game” question, and I think it has great potential, especially for younger players who want something looser than a 90-minute Career Mode.
