Chun-Li is one of the most iconic video game characters of all time, and this October, she’ll return as a live-action character in the new Street Fighter movie. Canadian-born actor Callina Liang has been cast in this huge role, and in an interview with Empire magazine recently, she’s now revealed how she prepared.
Firstly, she “downloaded every single version of Street Fighter” and recorded Chun-Li’s moves in slow-mo, so she could then play them back and study them. As “Chun-Li is all kicks”, she trained in martial arts, did some leg strengthening and made some drastic changes to her diet, eating 12 eggs a day.
Thankfully, it all paid off for her (and her thighs):
“We did a bunch of Taekwondo training, Muay Thai, and wushu. I did two hours of that a day and strengthened my legs a lot and changed my diet drastically. When I was bulking, I ate 12 eggs a day. Every two hours I had to have a meal and I was on the verge of throwing up. But it worked. By the end of the shoot my thighs had grown six-and-a-half centimeters each.”
Liang will be joined by an all-star cast in the upcoming Street Fighter movie, including many actors who are already trained in martial arts. Some other cast members include Roman Reigns as Akuma, 50 Cent as Balrog, Jason Momoa as Blanka, and Cody Rhodes as Guile.
A recent teaser for the movie also revealed there would be cameos from well-known individuals within the Fighting Game Community.
