Rockstar has been having quite the time recently, as GTA 6 leaks have been getting public attention as the work of a person or group by the name Cyberleek. It’s been difficult to miss that leaks were happening, even if you weren’t necessarily paying attention to them, simply because GTA 6 is a highly anticipated game. However, if you’ve been keeping up with these leaks, it might not surprise you that Cyberleek has finally cashed out their memecoin of the same name.

Take-Two could be about to close in on the leaker, once and for all.
Today was a big day for GTA 6 due to the official reveal of the game being available on Netflix, so Cyberleek decided to make the most of this timing and cash out roughly $250,000 of the Cyberleek memecoin. This means that the coin’s value plummeted, and now anybody left holding the coin is likely trying to get rid of their own shares before the loss grows too great.
The Rug Pull We Knew Was Coming
I’m pretty sure that memecoins are only created at this point for the purpose of a rug pull and quick profits, and that’s what happened with the Cyberleek memecoin. Kotaku has a breakdown of how Cyberleek tried to make it look like they weren’t going to rug pull their coin to try luring in investors.
However, the pattern of memecoins being used to make a quick profit through a rug pull, combined with Cyberleek pushing their memecoin with every bit of information they leaked about GTA 6, made this cash-out feel inevitable.
As a result, coin holders without insider knowledge are left with a coin that’s dropped in value, and that usually means they’ve lost money.
If you aren’t up-to-date with rug pulls, they work by having a new coin minted, and that coin is then purchased by people with inside information to increase its value. As the value increases, more people want to start purchasing it with the intention of profiting off the value, because they see the trend that this coin’s value is going up. Once the value reaches a higher point, the creators sell their shares and collect a profit. As a result, coin holders without insider knowledge are left with a coin that’s dropped in value, and that usually means they’ve lost money.

GTA 6 has a lot of eyes on it at all times, especially after it’s been delayed more than once. Since Cyberleek had access to unreleased parts of the game through some method, they likely knew that any piece of leaked information was going to get a ton of views. If they were going to get guaranteed views, then advertising a memecoin with those leaks would make the coin well-known.
It’s unfortunate that the employees of Rockstar and Take-Two had their hard work spoiled by one or more people who clearly had malicious intentions and wanted to make money off that work. At the same time, it makes you wonder how Cyberleek had access to GTA 6 content, and it’s interesting that the leaks have been of content that’s not super impactful, like bits of the prologue. This seems to suggest that Cyberleek doesn’t have a full build, but I believe that it could be an attempt to not draw too much ire from Rockstar and Take-Two by avoiding big spoilers.
Regardless of the reason, Rockstar and Take-Two are determined to find Cyberleek and make whoever might be behind it face consequences for their actions. Right now, it can seem like Cyberleek was able to get a nice payday from these leaks and the memecoin, but that’s unlikely to protect them from facing legal action. In that case, depending on the consequences, the $250,000 payout Cyberleek made from their memecoin rug pull could end up not being worth the legal cost of their decision to access and leak GTA 6 content.
