Will Apple’s ‘revamped’ Health app with AI health coach debut next month?

Earlier this year, rumors were rampant about a revamped Health app coming to iOS 26.4. Then the project was delayed, and iOS 27 came and went, and the revamp still didn’t arrive.

With the new Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 debuting next month, it’s worth asking: will we see the features debut alongside new hardware?

    Precedence

First and foremost, it’s worth going over why it’s probable that the features will debut in September. You might think “Shouldn’t all the software be unveiled in June?” – but there’s actually some precedence here.

Low Power Mode in watchOS 9, Sleep Apnea detection in watchOS 11, and Hypertension notifications in watchOS 26 were all features that weren’t unveiled until September despite not requiring the latest hardware.

So, for those reasons – it’s incredibly likely that Apple would wait until September to unveil its latest Health app upgrades, even if they don’t necessarily require the brand new Apple Watch.

    There’s still time

Prior to WWDC27, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman warned that the new Health app upgrades, dubbed Project Mulberry, might not make an appearance at the WWDC keynote. Obviously, that now ended up being the case:

The Apple Health app is getting a range of new AI features that were originally planned for a comprehensive health coach service internally dubbed “Mulberry” that was scaled back. The upgrade, which includes improved blood sugar-related tracking and the ability to use a device camera to monitor a person’s workout, is not expected to arrive in the initial release of iOS 27. Apple may also announce these at a later date than WWDC.

Does this necessarily mean that Project Mulberry will for sure debut at the September keynote? No. That said, given the past feature unveils in September and the fact that we already knew it could be released later than WWDC, a September unveil feels somewhat likely, even if it ultimately ends up debuting in iOS 27.1 in October.

    Feature recap

The rumors have been a bit wishy-washy regarding this feature set, since there are tons of variables at play. One of the things you may have heard was that there’d be a standalone Health+ service with videos from doctors. However, that plan was reportedly scaled back in favor of integrating the features into the usual Health app experience.

There are two very clear things though: there’ll be an AI health coach that gives you tips on your health based on health app data, and it’ll also have the ability to use your camera to give you real-time advice on workouts and other health-related tasks. Another key part of this upgrade is a new Health app design that makes it easier to make sense of all of the data.

Beyond that, we’ll have to wait and see. I, for one, am looking forward to having a much better way of making sense of my Apple Health data.
