    Summary

    • Google quietly raised the TV Streamer price by 50% from $99 to $149.
    • Some retailers still sell it at $99 (eg Amazon) – snag one before the price or stock disappears.
    • Our writers find the Streamer lacking; $50 alternatives look more appealing.

Well, that was sudden. In an unannounced price increase, Google has raised the price of its TV Streamer by 50%. That puts the price up from $99 to $149, which is pretty nasty given how we didn’t see it coming. However, there is a silver lining; if you’re quick, you can still pick up a Streamer for its original price, but I’m not sure how long that window’s going to last.

Some places still list it for $99 if you’re lucky

As spotted by The Verge, Google has silently upped the price of its Google TV Streamer. It used to cost $99, but after a 50% price hike, it’ll now set you back $149 for one. Right now, that new price is reflected both in the Google Store and at Best Buy.

However, if you’re lucky, you may still save yourself some cash by buying it from a store that still lists it at the original price. One such retailer is Amazon, which still lists it for $99. I can’t imagine that either the product stock or the price will stay available for long, so I’d recommend snapping one up sooner rather than later.

That being said, we haven’t been too impressed with the Streamer here at XDA. One of our editors, Adam Conway, preferred this $50 box, which seems like an even better deal now when compared to the Streamer. To top it off, our own Brian Burgess recently gave the Google TV Streamer a second chance and still found it lacking, so there’s that.
