While most Pokémon movies often focus around the actual in-game characters themselves, it’s not often that we get one that focuses on other aspects of the franchise, like the trading card game for example. That’s all changing soon though, following the announcement of Pokémon: Wild Card, an upcoming animated movie. As per the Pokemon Company’s announcement:
“Pokémon: Wild Card” will be the first release of a Pokémon movie in years. The story follows an aspiring Pokémon Trading Card Game player and Mimikyu, the Disguise Pokémon. In production with STORY inc. and CloverWorks, one of Japan’s top animation studios, Trainers can look forward to this animated film adventure coming soon.
It’s been quite a busy month for the Pokémon Company as the franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary. Just this month alone, we’ve seen the launch of a Pokémon-themed Fitbit tracker and SanDisk storage drives, as well as a major content-streaming deal with Disney+, which finally brings anime gaming-action to the house of Mickey.

Going back to the upcoming film, we’d imagine that Pokémon: Wild Card will be a big hit among fans, especially given the overall popularity of the Pokémon trading card game, which helped cement and strengthen the franchise’s presence within modern pop culture since its debut back in the 90s.
