At IFA 2026 in Berlin, TP-Link announced what it’s calling the world’s first complete Wi-Fi 8 lineup, led by two hero products: the Archer 8 Ultra router and the Deco 8 Ultra mesh system. Both are built on the upcoming IEEE 802.11bn standard and pair chipsets from Broadcom, Qualcomm, and MediaTek with TP-Link’s U.S.-led engineering team.
Both series are my favourite (check my review on the Archer GX90 and Deco Wi-Fi 7’s BE85).
Wi-Fi 8 is designed to tackle problems most people actually live with day to day: spotty signal at the far end of the house, slowdowns when too many devices are connected at once, and interference that makes streaming or video calls inconsistent. TP-Link’s answer to all three is something it calls the Wi-Fi 8 StabilityEngine, which underpins both the Archer 8 Ultra and Deco 8 Ultra.
The technology behind it includes Enhanced Long Range (ELR) and Distributed Resource Units (DRU) for better coverage at the edges of a home and improved uplink performance for low-power devices sitting further away from the router. Non-Primary Channel Access (NPCA) helps keep the network responsive as device count climbs, and Unequal Modulation (UEQM) alongside new Modulation and Coding Schemes (MCS) are there to maintain consistent throughput even when interference is heavy. It sounds pretty technical, but the goal is straightforward: fewer dead spots, less congestion, more stable connections.
On the hardware side, the Archer 8 Ultra is a tri-band router with up to 19 Gbps aggregate wireless speed and 10 Gbps wired connectivity, drawing on 18 internal antennas to push coverage around the home. The Deco 8 Ultra steps that up to 22 Gbps aggregate wireless speeds in a mesh configuration, with a three-pack covering up to 910 square metres and supporting more than 200 connected devices simultaneously. More than enough for large households.
Design has clearly been a focus this time too. Both products were designed at TP-Link’s Irvine, California headquarters, and you can see the result. The Archer 8 Ultra goes for a minimalist, architectural look with a dual-tone grille and a soft ambient glow for status indication rather than the usual cluster of blinking LEDs. The Deco 8 Ultra keeps the familiar cylindrical Deco shape but softens it with organic edges, a matte body, and a glossy top.
TP-Link’s full Wi-Fi 8 lineup beyond these two launch products will include the Deco 8 mesh system in Q1 2027, the Roam 8 travel router in Q2 2027, and Wi-Fi 8 range extenders and adapters also arriving in Q2 2027.
Australian pre-orders for the Archer 8 Ultra open on 30 September 2026 at major retailers, immediately following TP-Link’s global online launch event that same day. Pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet, but Australians can register their interest now at tp-link.com/au/wifi8 to be notified when details land.
