Epic pushed a Sprite leveling change on September 4, 2026, a day after Chapter 7 Season 4 “Override” v42.10 went live. Duplicate Sprites now feed XP directly into the copy you already own instead of sitting unused in your inventory.
The change removes a grind that’s dogged the Sprite Garden system since launch. Leveling a Sprite used to mean carrying that exact Sprite into match after match and extracting it repeatedly. Finding a second copy did nothing for your progress. That’s no longer true.

In practice: find a duplicate Sprite during a match, extract it at any level, and the XP applies to your owned copy. Mastery still requires reaching level 5, then bringing that Sprite into a match and extracting it once more to lock in master status. The new rule only removes the need to keep leveling the same specific unit over and over.
Which Sprites Don’t Get the Shortcut

Two exceptions sit outside the duplicate-XP system:
- Crown Sprite: Requires winning a match with it equipped. Epic recently cut that requirement from multiple wins down to one, but duplicates still don’t grant it XP.
- Klombo Sprite: Community testing indicates it still requires feeding health items rather than duplicate extraction, though Epic hasn’t confirmed this explicitly.

Part of a Bigger Sprite Overhaul
The duplicate-XP fix landed alongside other Sprite changes in v42.10. Mastering a Sprite now halves its Sprite Dust resummon cost, and Epic added a Sprite Mastery track with its own reward line, including an arcade-themed Back Bling due in v42.20.
