The JustTap Magnetic Phone Tripod takes something as ordinary as a smartphone tripod and adds a nifty trick: tap the bottom against a surface and its tripod legs automatically spring open. Combined with a strong magnetic phone mount, a tall telescopic pole, and a rechargeable Bluetooth remote, it ends up being much more versatile than I initially expected. And you can use it to just about anything, for personal or professional use.

It’s impressive how compact the JustTap becomes when fully retracted. At around 33 cm long, I easily put it inside my luggage and carried it with me overseas without it taking up much space. What surprised me even more was seeing how tall it becomes once fully extended. Going from something compact enough to throw into luggage to a tripod that can reach around 167–168 cm is pretty cool.
The defining feature is KraftGeek’s patented JustTap opening mechanism. Rather than manually unfolding three tripod legs every time you want to take a photo (which can be tedious), you simply tap the base against the ground and the legs deploy automatically. I really like how quick this makes the whole setup process. There isn’t much fiddling around involved; a tap against the ground and the tripod is pretty much ready to go.
It’s pretty useful when you’re travelling or constantly moving between shooting locations. Instead of stopping to manually unfold and position each leg, the JustTap mechanism makes deploying the tripod feel almost effortless so you can quickly take that photo moment before it’s too late.
KraftGeek says the mechanism has been drop-tested more than 10,000 times, which is reassuring cons idering repeatedly tapping the base against a surface is quite literally how the product is designed to be used.
MagSafe makes mounting your phone much easier
Instead of relying on the traditional spring-loaded phone clamp found on many selfie sticks and tripods, the JustTap uses a magnetic mounting system with N52-grade magnets. The magnetic surface is strong and holds my iPhone 17 Pro firmly in place. More importantly, my iPhone doesn’t feel like it’s wobbling around while mounted, which is something you definitely want when you’re trusting an expensive phone to a tripod.
For an iPhone with MagSafe or another compatible magnetic case, attaching the phone is simply a matter of placing it against the mount. It’s much more convenient than pulling open a clamp every time.
KraftGeek also includes an adhesive magnetic ring for non-MagSafe phones, so the mounting system isn’t limited exclusively to compatible iPhones.
Another advantage of the magnetic design is that nothing grips around the edges of your phone. This leaves the ports accessible, which is useful if you’re attaching a microphone, external storage, or another accessory while filming.
More flexible than I expected
Once fully extended, the JustTap offers a surprising amount of flexibility when it comes to finding the right height and angle. This will be useful for selfies, group photos, panoramic shots, product photography, and even product unboxing videos. You can, I guess, also use it as a selfie stick if you like.
In fact, in terms of flexibility, I find it even more versatile than the DSLR camera tripod I have at home. That’s largely because you aren’t limited to adjusting the height of the tripod itself. The magnetic phone holder can also be tilted through its dual-axis mechanism and rotated through 360 degrees. This means you can quickly move between portrait and landscape orientation or position your phone for higher, lower, or overhead angles without having to completely reposition the tripod.
For content creators, this makes a huge difference. You could have the tripod standing at full height for a talking-head video, lower it for a group photo, then tilt the phone downwards for an overhead product shot or unboxing video like this one (using the tripod and my iPhone 17 Pro):
A rechargeable remote that won’t disappear in your bag
The JustTap also comes with a detachable Bluetooth remote that allows you to trigger your phone’s camera from up to around 10 metres away. That’s pretty useful for selfies and group photos where you don’t want to use a timer, but I particularly like two smaller details about the remote.
First, it’s rechargeable through USB-C. This is very handy compared with small camera remotes that rely on replaceable coin-cell batteries (which I really hate). Second, the remote can be stored seamlessly on the leg of the tripod itself. It magnetically snaps into place when you’re not using it, which means there’s a dedicated spot for it rather than having another tiny accessory floating around somewhere inside your bag (which would be lost one day).
PowerShutter Power Bank Stand
KraftGeek also supplied the PowerShutter Power Bank Stand alongside the JustTap™ Magnetic Phone Tripod, and the two products are designed to complement each other.
At first glance, the PowerShutter looks like another compact magnetic phone accessory, but it actually combines several functions into a single unit. It works as a magnetic phone grip and stand, a wireless camera shutter, and a 5,000mAh power bank.
The magnetic mounting system means it can attach directly to a compatible iPhone, similar to the JustTap itself. Once attached, the hinged and rotatable design can be used as a grip while holding the phone or folded into a stand for hands-free use. There’s also a built-in 5,000mAh battery, allowing it to double as a portable magnetic charger so you can shoot even longer videos – perfect for wedding or other important events.
For compatible iPhones, KraftGeek rates magnetic charging at up to 10W. Android phones are also supported for charging, although performance depends on the phone and case being used.
I like the idea behind the PowerShutter because it’s the sort of accessory that can potentially replace several smaller accessories in your travel bag. Instead of carrying a magnetic stand, a small power bank, and a Bluetooth camera remote separately, you effectively get all three functions in one compact device. It also works particularly well alongside the JustTap Magnetic Phone Tripod. If you’re travelling or creating content away from home, you can use the tripod for your main shooting setup while keeping the PowerShutter available for handheld shooting, charging, or quick tabletop setups.

The JustTap Magnetic Phone Tripod from KraftGeek has turned out to be far more useful than a typical smartphone selfie stick or compact tripod.
The coolest part is the contrast between its size when packed and what it can do once fully deployed. At only around 33 cm when retracted, it’s compact enough that I could easily take it overseas inside my luggage. Extend it fully, though, and you suddenly have a tripod approaching 1.7 metres tall. That huge adjustment range gives it impressive versatility as you can easily use it for taking selfies, group photos, panoramic photography, product shots, and unboxing videos, and the adjustable magnetic holder makes it easy to change both the angle and orientation of the phone.
Being able to set the tripod up with a simple tap against the ground makes the process faster and more convenient. More importantly, none of that convenience comes at the expense of stability. The tripod feels sturdy, while the strong magnetic mount holds the smartphone securely without noticeable wobbling.
I also appreciate some of the smaller design decisions, particularly the rechargeable Bluetooth remote and the fact that it magnetically stores directly on the tripod leg when you’re finished with it.
