First announced at the Sony State of Play in February 2025, there’s still no firm release date for TOA, but the level of hype for the game has reached explosive levels as gamers were recently given the opportunity to go hands-on with an impressive new demo at gamescom 2026.
Diving Deeper into Tides of Annihilation Gameplay and Story
Tides of Annihilation is set in post-apocalyptic London, where an invasion from a strange place known as The Otherworld has left nothing but destruction in its wake.
Now it’s up to you to unravel the mystery of the strange forces wreaking havoc on the world and save not only your family, but humanity itself. In order to accomplish this goal, you’ll need to embark on a perilous journey filled with unimaginably massive enemies that won’t be easy to conquer — fortunately, the character you play wields an incredible power.
Players will take control of Gwendolyn, a fierce protagonist who is able to summon the spirits of over a dozen knights of the round table, inspired by Arthurian legends.
Steeped in Strategy
One of the most intriguing aspects of Tides of Annihilation is the ability for players to customize their knight sets, which means you’ll be able to choose which of the legendary knights of the round table will fight at your side, each wielding unique abilities.
Players will have tough decisions to make at every turn, creating a seemingly endless number of ways to approach your battles.
From defensive beasts, to burst-damage dealers and flying knights that help you attack hard-to-reach enemies, players will be able to change their knight sets to best suit the current situation, which may take some serious trial-and-error before you master this exciting spirit-based combat system.
In the midst of battle, Gwendolyn has full control of her knights, and will be able to summon them at a moment’s notice, utilizing a variety of knight skills and traits to get the job done in spectacular fashion.
To use certain knight abilities, you’ll have to perform button combos in quick succession to trigger the attack. While button-mashing may very well help you in certain situations, the combat system in Tides of Annihilation does appear to encourage precise combos and forward-thinking when it comes to your strategy.
Challenging Combat
Gwendolyn will be able to stagger enemies once she has dealt enough damage and reached their break threshold, giving her enough time to use powerful finishing moves such as the FogClaw finisher.
While simply repositioning to dodge attacks will certainly be your best friend on many occasions, you’ll also need to master the art of countering attacks, which will call for fast-reflexes as you’ll need to perform these counters just before an enemy makes contact.

As you travel through post-apocalyptic London, exploring decrepit buildings, searching for clues and artifacts to help make sense of the calamity, you’ll also encounter Colossal Knights who wander between your world, and the otherworld.
These beings are literally as large as mountains, and will become arenas for challenging boss fights, as well as vast places to explore.
While no firm release date is set, based on the quality and length of the demo, TOA could potentially be released at the tail-end of 2026 or early 2027.
With an exciting premise, complex combat systems, environmental puzzles and challenging boss fights, Tides of Annihilation has what it takes to become a shining star in the action-adventure genre.
