The new iPhone 18 Pro has much better battery life than its predecessors, but it also has even faster wired charging.
To fast charge the new iPhone, Apple says you need to use its dynamic 40-watt power adapter with 60-watt max output and USB-C cable. With this combination, you will charge at the maximum possible speed, which is about 33% faster than previous pro iPhones could.
Maximum charging speed on iPhone 18 Pro with a 60-watt charger means you can charge from zero to 50% in about 15 minutes. That’s about 5 minutes faster than iPhone 17 Pro, for comparison.
Also, at that faster charging rate, Apple says users can get about 6 hours of video playback time with just a quick five minute top-up charge.
Specifically, Apple’s specs for the new iPhone 18 fast charging times require a 60-watt USB PD 3.1-compatible power adapter with Adjustable Voltage Supply feature. Right now, the only charger readily available that meets those requirements is the Apple 40W dynamic power adapter.
When we get the phones in our hands, we’ll be able to do some hands-on battery charge time tests with other third-party adapters to see how they fare. For instance, the MacBook charger you already own will likely be rated for 96W or 140W, but it lacks the Adjustable Voltage Supply feature.
There are also a bunch of third-party chargers rated above 40-watts, like this Anker 45W brick. Presumably, iPhone 18 Pro will achieve the same as iPhone 17 Pro did here, fast charging from empty to 50% in about twenty minutes. This is still very fast charging when you are in a pinch.
For wireless charging, iPhone 18 Pro can go from 0 to 50% in about 30 minutes when paired with the Apple MagSafe Charger and any 35-watt power brick.
iPhone 18 Pro goes up for preorder this Saturday, with first units shipping on September 18. When Apple’s foldable iPhone Duo ships next month, it will also support the same faster charging speeds as iPhone 18 Pro, if you have the right accessories as described above.
Remember, Apple doesn’t include power bricks with their phones anymore — just a USB-C cable.
