Street Fighter returns to the big screen in live-action form this fall after a 17-year hiatus. Capcom and Legendary’s new take on the nearly 40-year-old franchise promises to be bigger, brasher, and more Blanka-packed than ever before. In an exclusive new look at Street Fighter, we see just how battered and bruised our heroes will look after competing in Bison’s bloodsport. It’s a very unglamorous look at protagonists Chun-Li, Ryu, Ken, and Dan.
Director Kitao Sakurai (Twisted Metal, The Eric Andre Show) is leaning hard into the spirit of the video games for his adaptation of the franchise, with the latest look at Street Fighter evoking the post-match win screens from the early Street Fighter arcade games. In a movie already guaranteed to be full of fan-focused Easter eggs, the battle-damaged heroes seen here are just one strong example.

What is Street Fighter about?
The new Street Fighter is set in 1993 — the year Super Street Fighter 2 debuted in arcades — and focuses on estranged martial artists Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo), who have big beef. They reunite after being recruited by Chun-Li (Callina Liang) to compete in the World Warrior Tournament, a contest that masks a deadly conspiracy.

When does the Street Fighter movie come out?

Street Fighter comes to movie theaters on Oct. 16. The movie was filmed for and will be screened in IMAX.
Legendary’s Paramount is the first new live-action Street Fighter movie since 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, which followed a previous live-action adaptation, the original Street Fighter movie from 1994.
