Once upon a time in the ‘80s and ‘90s, hotlines were a thing. You could dial a 1-900 or 1-800 number for entertainment, advice or to chat with strangers. I won’t help you age yourself by reminiscing about whether you called Nintendo’s tip line or Freddy Krueger (who wanted us all to know he was just a phone call away), but I do want to let you know Tubi is bringing that vibe back with TubiFone.

The free streaming service is one of my favorite platforms for finding classic movies and TV shows (and lots of other content, too), and now it wants to help you pick something to watch with its recommendation hotline. It’s matching your energy. How? By calling 1-833-605-TUBI and sharing what kind of mood you’re in. The hotline is part of the streamer’s new “Find Any Feeling for Free” campaign.

I dialed TubiFone myself, and the hotline delivers a lineup of movies after you make your selection based on how you’re feeling. For each of the five recommendations, a prerecorded voice recites the film’s description and cast members, followed by its title. When I clicked the option for “Adventurous,” here’s what I got:

    1. To Live and Die in LA
    2. Men in Black
    3. The Mummy
    4. The Thomas Crown Affair
    5. Where the Wild Things Are

This is a different kind of hotline bling — one that offers movie recs.Tubi

It’s up to you whether to rely solely on an algorithm or your device’s search function to sift through Tubi’s extensive library, or make a quick phone call for some film recommendations. The service has other ways you can find content to watch, too, including its Scenes feature, its ChatGPT app and dedicated content hubs.
