For gamers everywhere, Hideo Kojima’s work within the gaming industry has resulted in some of the most groundbreaking gaming experiences throughout the years, as seen with the likes of the Metal Gear and Death Stranding series. That said, Kojima Productions has now announced that it’s partnering with XBOX to formally publish the upcoming action-espionage project PHYSINT, after it was unexpectedly canceled by PlayStation earlier this summer.

The announcement follows a turbulent three-month period for the studio—according to Kojima, PlayStation Studios suddenly notified Kojima Productions in mid-June that it was stepping away from the project. Determined to keep the game alive, Kojima spent the summer searching for a new publisher before reaching an agreement with XBOX to move forward with the game. Asha Sharma, XBOX CEO comments:

Creators have choices about where and how they bring their ideas to life. We’re honored that Kojima-san has chosen XBOX to work with KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS on PHYSINT. His ambition to challenge conventions reflects the kind of creativity we want to support at XBOX.

In addition to interactive software, the expanded partnership will see the two companies collaborate on film and television adaptations to bring Kojima’s intellectual properties to other forms of media. Not much else is known about the game at this point however, so launch and pricing details will likely come at a later date.
