A while back, Samsung and Microsoft announced that the direct integration between Samsung Gallery and OneDrive will come to an end this September. Fortunately though, Samsung users can now sync their native Gallery app directly with their Google Account in original quality, a new update which was confirmed by Google.
To use the feature, users will need a compatible Samsung device running Android 13 or higher as well as a personal Google Account. When enabled, the integration counts against a user’s Google Account storage quota and syncs key metadata alongside their camera roll, screenshots, and downloads. It should be noted though that the feature is currently unavailable for Google Workspace accounts and child accounts supervised by a parent.
Additionally, deleting photos within Samsung Gallery or Google Photos will remove the item from both applications and cloud storage, while edits will also sync across platforms. Samsung apps will also gain permission to view and manage uploaded media, although synced items will remain restricted from Google Photos features like Memories, Live albums and Search, unless backed up natively through Google Photos itself.

To enable the feature, users will need to open the Samsung Gallery app, tap the menu in the bottom right, select settings, choose “Sync Photos and videos,” and follow the on-screen prompts to link a Google Account. Users can disconnect the service at any time to halt new uploads while keeping previously backed-up media intact within Google Photos.
