Following a Video Games Chronicle interview that revealed the file size for Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be “around 200GB,” FFVII remake trilogy Director Naoki Hamaguchi shared additional comments and explanation on social media. He also mentioned how this is due to it being “more than ten years of work.” He also stated, “A larger file size may not necessarily mean a better game.”
Here is the full statement that Naoki Hamaguchi released about the possible 200GB file size of FFVII Revelation.
“A larger file size may not necessarily mean a better game. However, this title is the culmination of more than ten years of work from our development team and serves as the conclusion to the FFVII Remake series. We are committed to delivering a game that not only meets the expectations of our fans, but is also a work that we, as creators, can be truly proud of. We hope you’ll look forward to its launch on April 8, 2027.”
Part of the reason this has become noteworthy and an issue for some is due to the way the physical copies are being handled. Because of the size, there are capacity limitations. Naoki Hamaguchi already confirmed people who go with a disc will need an additional download in an IGN interview. In a separate statement on social media, he noted, “Each platform has limitations when it comes to physical media capacity, but we believed that compromising the quality of the final chapter in order to achieve a fully on-disc release would ultimately not be in the best interest of many fans. We understand that this decision may not meet everyone’s expectations. Even so, in today’s market, where the industry is steadily moving toward a disc-less future, we believe there is real value in being able to offer a physical edition at all.”
As a refresher, the original FFVII Remake Intergrade ranges from 80-95GB. This is before patches and varies depending on the platform. FFVII Rebirth is, again, between 91 and 145GB depending on where you play and patch downloads.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will come to the Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on April 8, 2027.
