If you’re eyeing Samsung’s next big phone, expect it to feel a little heavier in your hand. A new leak says the Galaxy S27 Ultra will weigh 218 grams, 4 grams more than the current Galaxy S26 Ultra, and a bigger battery is the likely reason. That matters if you plan to upgrade next year. Four grams is a gap most people won’t feel. What you could get in return is a phone that runs longer between charges.
Why the Galaxy S27 Ultra is gaining weight
The numbers come from the well-known leaker Ice Universe. The tipster says the phone stays 7.9mm thick, just like the S26 Ultra, which weighs 214 grams. Samsung hasn’t confirmed any of this, and the phone reportedly won’t arrive until early 2027.
The battery is the most likely cause. Recent leaks point to a 5,700mAh battery, up from 5,000mAh in the S26 Ultra. That’s about 14% more battery for only a 2% bump in weight. So honestly, that’s not a bad trade-off.
Samsung’s Ultra phones have shipped with the same 5,000mAh battery for years. The new size reportedly comes from a newer battery material called silicon-carbon, which stores more power in the same space.
Apple is adding weight too
Samsung isn’t the only company moving in this direction. Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro now weighs 211 grams, up from 206 grams last year. The iPhone 18 Pro Max jumped from 233 to 249 grams..
The Pro Max also got a bigger battery, and the added weight is a difference you may feel in your hand. However, even with the rumored increase in weight, Samsung would still have the lighter phone. The 249-gram iPhone 18 Pro Max still outweighs the S27 Ultra. The 218 grams also matches the Galaxy S25 Ultra, so long-time Samsung owners might already be familiar with that weight.
If you own a Galaxy S26 Ultra, the extra weight alone isn’t a reason to upgrade or to skip. If short battery life is your biggest complaint, the S27 Ultra is the one to watch when it arrives.
