A GamesBeat report claims that Grand Theft Auto 6—which still hasn’t been announced for PC—will launch for PC sometime within the first three months of 2027. If correct, that means the game will drop, at most, just four months after its initial release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.

GamesBeat cites “four industry sources familiar with the studio’s plans” in its report, all of whom requested anonymity. Rockstar has not yet commented on the claim.

It’s a surprising claim. Earlier this year, we predicted that GTA 6 won’t likely appear on PC before November 2027, mainly because that’s just how Rockstar rolls. We always have to wait.

    The Unfortunate Timeline

    • Grand Theft Auto 3: 7 months between console and PC release
    • Vice City: 7 months
    • San Andreas: 8 months
    • Bully: 2 years
    • GTA 4: 7 months
    • Red Dead Redemption: 14 years, 5 months
    • GTA 5: 1 year, 6 months
    • RDR2: 1 year

Compared to that, a four month break between the console and PC releases, and possibly less, seems downright snappy, especially given how the gaps between GTA games themselves have grown over the decades.

Not only would a Q1 release of GTA 6 on PC be an unusually brief break, it also puts the game in the midst of the post-holiday hangover, when we’re all doing our best to nurse our bruised and battered bank balances back to health.

And that, I think, would feel especially egregious in the immediate aftermath of this year’s holiday season, which for gamers will be driven by the release of GTA 6 on consoles. Rockstar loves the double dip, but punching the button again so soon after the console release would surely be viewed dimly by a not-insignificant number of people who would prefer the flexibility and power of the PC, but really don’t want to wait for it.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

Of course, if Rockstar or Take-Two confirms the GTA 6 PC release date really is that close—Take-Two’s next quarterly financial report takes place on November 9, which might be a time for such a thing—some no doubt would wait for it, cannibalizing launch sales to some extent.

There’s no shortage of people on social media saying they will indeed wait to buy GTA 6 if the PC version is indeed coming that quickly. That feeling may be even more widespread than it appears, given how much GTA 6 costs: At $100 for the premium edition and all the exclusive content it contains, you can understand why people might be more reticent about buying it multiple times than they were for earlier games in the series.

    How about you?

Anything’s possible, of course, and I would never presume to have a better understanding of these things than Strauss Zelnick and the rest of the GTA brain trust. But I also wouldn’t bet on it—and for now I’m definitely taking all of this with a grain of salt. I’ve also reached out to Rockstar to ask about it, and will update if anyone answers.
