Google has officially launched its Universal Cart, a shopping feature designed to make online purchases easier by bringing products from multiple retailers into one place. Announced on October 15, the tool is integrated with Google Search and the Gemini app, helping shoppers organize purchases, track prices, monitor product availability, and discover potential savings.
Previously available to a limited number of users, the feature is powered by Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), which supports shopping experiences across different platforms. Users can add items to a single cart while browsing Google’s services without having to manage multiple browser tabs or restart their shopping process.

For example, shoppers can save an accessory through Google’s AI-powered search experience and later add a beauty product through Gemini. Both items remain organized in the same shopping environment.
Price Tracking and Personalized Savings
The Universal Cart also uses Google’s Shopping Graph, which continuously updates information on more than 60 billion product listings. This system helps monitor price changes and product availability, allowing shoppers to receive automatic alerts when an item becomes cheaper or returns to stock.
Beyond price tracking, Google aims to help consumers identify additional savings. Through integration with Google Wallet, the system can apply relevant promotional codes and recommend an eligible saved credit card based on the benefits or rewards it offers for a particular purchase.
These features could help US shoppers compare opportunities to save money without manually searching for discounts or reviewing every card in their wallet.
Checkout Options and Retailer Support
When shoppers are ready to complete a purchase, they can use Google Pay for a streamlined checkout or continue to participating retailers’ websites. Listed partners include Nike, Sephora, Target, Walmart, and merchants using Shopify.
However, the Universal Cart does not replace retailers’ existing responsibilities. Participating stores remain responsible for order confirmation, customer support, fulfillment, and delivery, regardless of the checkout method.
US Availability and Future Expansion
Google is introducing the Universal Cart in the United States first. The company has not confirmed a broader international rollout, so availability in other markets remains uncertain.
By combining AI assistance, price monitoring, promotional offers, and centralized shopping, Google’s Universal Cart represents another step toward a more connected online shopping experience. Its impact will depend on retailer participation, feature availability, and how effectively it helps consumers save time and money.
