The Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises event runs from 17th October to 1st November, adding two Gen 6 Ghost-types to Pokémon Pokopia.
For those who have played previous Pokopia limited-time events, the format will be familiar: a new Pokémon, Pumpkaboo, visits a Pokémon Center and requests a currency (Pumpkin Candy) in exchange for items which can help make a couple new habitats. But in a spooky twist, this time is you have to scare the event currency out of your resident Pokémon.
This Pokémon Pokopia guide explains how to start the Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises event, how to get Pumpkin Candy, and how to find Pumpkaboo evolution Gourgeist by making its habitat.

How To Start The Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises Event
First, you need to have rebuilt a Pokémon Center, and play between the dates of 17th October to 1st November. Second, you need to have learnt the Camouflage transformation from Zorua in Bleak Beach.
As with the recent wave of live events, though you couldn’t travel to this event ahead of time, now it’s live, you’re free to time travel back if you missed it.
When you log in during the above dates, Pumpkaboo will appear outside of the Withering Wastes Pokémon Center and asks for Pumpkin Candy. Collect some – the next section explains how – then exchange them in a Pokémon Center for various spooky items exclusive to the event, which in turn can be used to build two habitats for Pumpkaboo and evolution Gourgeist.

How to get Pumpkin Candy
To get Pumpkin Candy, you must scare Pokémon by using Camouflage to transform into one of their favourite items, then transform back to startle them.
At first this feels like quite an overwhelming task without knowing every Pokémon’s favourite items, but the trick to this is to visit their habitat and Camouflage as a piece of furniture or a toy (not a building block or similar environmental item).
Now, get within their line of sight, and they will remark about the item in a speech bubble – then all you then need to do is transform back to startle them to receive the Pumpkin Candy.

A few other things we observed about the process:
- It doesn’t have to be that Pokémon’s favourite, just something they like, so chances are as you explore as the disguised item, other Pokémon will also take notice, allowing you to scare them too (albeit one at a time).
- As such, it’s worth doing this in an environment with a dense number of Pokémon living together, making collecting Pumpkin Candy much quicker.
- If the Pokémon you’re aiming to scare is in conversation with another Pokémon, they won’t notice you.
- The Pokémon has to react with a speech bubble naming the item you transformed into – otherwise they won’t be scared when you turn back.

- Despite the initial warning from Pumpkaboo that you can’t scare the same Pokémon again right away, I found the cooldown to be fairly generous. For example, I managed to return to one in around eight minutes for another dose of Candy.
- You receive one to three Candy per scare – meaning in theory you only need to do a handful of scares to get all the items from the event.
