Summary
- Claude-assisted TabStationToo ports PCSX2 to run inside a Chrome browser tab.
- It runs locally, with no data uploaded; you must supply your own PS2 BIOS and ROMs.
- Not identical to native PCSX2 performance, but a compelling browser demo.
We’ve seen a tidal wave of people decompiling games and recompiling them for different systems thanks to advances in AI coding. Some people have even found ways to recompile games to run in a browser, but what about running an emulator in a tab? Two people have done just that using Claude, and you can try it yourself if you like.
TabStationToo is a Claude-coded version of PCSX2 that can run in your browser
It doesn’t upload any of your data to any servers, either
Over on the ClaudeAI subreddit, user yousriii posted about the project they’ve been working on alongside their friend, aegyptiacus11. It’s called TabStationToo, and it’s a Claude-assisted branch of the PCSX2 (GPL-3.0) emulator that takes its core and adapts it to run in a browser, with Chrome sporting the best results.
It’s worth noting that they didn’t publish a website you can visit. Instead, it’s something you run on your own side and open in your browser. It may seem pointless, but the main benefit is that all you need to get it running is to have Chrome on your system. You don’t need to install anything extra, and it doesn’t matter which OS you’re on; just spin it up in a tab, and you’re good to go.
Of course, you will need to supply the BIOS and ROMs from your own hardware, and the performance isn’t 1-to-1 with just running PCSX2 as-is. But it’s still a very cool feat, and a hint at what we might see in the future. Check out the TabStationToo GitHub repo if you’d like to give it a try.
