Reuters reported on November 5, 2026 that OpenAI President Greg Brockman said enterprise sales now generate the majority of the company’s revenue. Speaking on November 4, 2026, in Napa, California, Brockman answered “I think so” when asked whether OpenAI would be ready for an initial public offering in 2027.

The official conference program identifies Brockman as OpenAI’s co-founder and president, overseeing its products, computing efforts and business. His session, OpenAI’s Race to Scale, featured Wall Street Journal reporter Keach Hagey and was framed around AI infrastructure, ChatGPT’s business evolution, safety and cybersecurity, and future technology.

OpenAI’s business-sales effort includes promoting Codex as it competes with Anthropic for enterprise customers. Anthropic is likely to go public before the end of 2026, Reuters reported, making the rival’s expected listing timetable part of the context for Brockman’s answer.

Enterprise Sales Move Beyond OpenAI’s Earlier Target

OpenAI’s March 31, 2026 funding announcement supplies an earlier benchmark for the revenue mix. The company reported that enterprise accounted for more than 40% of revenue and was on track to reach parity with consumer revenue by the end of 2026, while the business overall was generating $2 billion in revenue per month. Brockman’s new description moves beyond that target: enterprise has shifted from a business expected to catch consumer to the larger contributor.

The March announcement also connected enterprise adoption to ChatGPT’s consumer reach. OpenAI reported more than 900 million weekly active ChatGPT users and over 50 million subscribers, presenting familiarity with ChatGPT in daily life as a route to workplace use.

Codex supplies a product-level measure of the business push. OpenAI reported that the coding agent’s weekly user base had passed 2 million after expanding fivefold in three months, while activity was growing more than 70% month over month. That growth helps explain why Codex featured in Brockman’s account of competition for business customers.

Private Funding and Compute Shape the IPO Context

The IPO answer also comes after OpenAI delayed its listing plans and accelerated fundraising to capitalize on recent growth. Its March announcement said the company had closed a round with $122 billion in committed capital at an $852 billion post-money valuation. Amazon, NVIDIA and SoftBank anchored the round, with continued participation from Microsoft. OpenAI also expanded its revolving credit facility to approximately $4.7 billion, and the facility remained undrawn at the round’s close.

Computing capacity connects that financing to the operating business. OpenAI’s March announcement described reliable computing access as a compounding advantage that supports model research and product development while increasing availability and reducing serving costs at scale. Its infrastructure portfolio spans several cloud providers, chip platforms and data-center partners, after expanding beyond a small number of core providers over the preceding 15 months.

Brockman’s answer expressed confidence about readiness without committing OpenAI to a 2027 listing. The central change is the business a potential offering would present: enterprise sales have moved beyond the earlier parity objective, while private funding and a broader infrastructure portfolio support a compute-heavy expansion. After the earlier IPO delay, the open question is whether OpenAI can convert that enterprise growth and compute investment into the public-market readiness Brockman described.
