The Lectron NACS (Tesla) Charger Fixes What Tesla Stopped Doing

Tesla used to include a charging cable in the trunk of every new car. That stopped a while back. Anyone who’s shopped for a replacement since knows the options are either pricey or hard to find in stock. The Lectron Tesla Charger steps into that gap. It does it with a feature Tesla’s own cord never had: an app.

This is a Level 1 charger. That means it plugs into any normal 120-volt household outlet. You don’t need to spend money or wait around to hire an electrician or deal with special wiring. Plug it in like a lamp, then plug the other end into your car. Simple, right?

    What You Actually Get

    oplus_8593080320

The charger itself is a compact box with a cable running to a NACS connector. NACS is the plug standard Tesla uses, and most other automakers are now adopting it too. According to Lectron, the charger delivers up to 1.44 kW of power at 12 amps. That works out to somewhere around 30 to 40 miles of range overnight, depending on the vehicle. That’s pretty much standard Level 1 charging speeds. It’s also same rate you’d get from Tesla’s own household adapter.

Lectron claims that it’s compatible with every current Tesla model, including the Cybertruck. It also works with any other EV built on the NACS standard. The company has also designed it with safety in mind. This includes overvoltage, overcurrent, and short-circuit protection, plus an LED indicator so you can glance at the box and know what’s going on. The control unit carries an IP67 rating, so rain or a damp garage floor won’t be a problem. It’s also UL2594 and UL2231 certified, which covers electric vehicle supply equipment safety standards.

A carrying case comes in the box. That matters if you plan on tossing this in the trunk for road trips instead of leaving it plugged into one outlet at home. The cable itself runs 16 feet, long enough to reach most parking spots without straining.

    Where the App Actually Helps

Here’s the part Tesla’s old (and more expensive) cord never touched. The Lectron Tesla Charger connects over WiFi, or Bluetooth as a fallback, to the Lectron app. Through the app, you can check charging status from your phone instead of walking out to the garage. You can schedule sessions to start overnight when electricity rates drop. You can even set a hard cap on how many kWh you want to add, so the car doesn’t charge to 100% every single time out of habit.

This takes an otherwise “dumb” accessory and give it the kind of remote visibility every other smart home device already has. Plug in and wait was the whole experience before. Now there’s a record of what happened and when. If you’ve ever forgotten whether you actually plugged the car in the night before, this solves that exact problem.

    Stacked Against Tesla’s Own Charger

    oplus_8593088544

Tesla’s mobile connector plugs into the same type of household outlet. It delivers a nearly identical charging rate too. So this isn’t a speed upgrade over what Tesla sells. The real differences show up elsewhere.

Tesla’s cord doesn’t connect to any app. It doesn’t schedule anything. It just charges, and that’s the whole feature set. The Lectron Tesla Charger adds a WiFi layer on top of that same basic function. It’s also been easier to actually get your hands on. Tesla’s own connector has gone in and out of stock more than once since the company stopped bundling it with new cars. For anyone who ordered a Tesla recently and found an empty box where a charging cable used to be, this fills that exact hole, quite literally.

One thing worth remembering is that if you need genuinely faster home charging, you might want to look into Level 2 chargers. However, that involves either installing a 240-volt outlet or going with Tesla’s hardwired Wall Connector. This charger isn’t trying to compete there. It’s built specifically for the outlet you already have in your garage or driveway.

Who This Actually Makes Sense For

Apartment dwellers without a dedicated parking spot benefit the most, since the whole unit packs into its carrying case and travels with you. Same goes for anyone who splits time between two homes, or who wants a backup cord in the trunk for unexpected stops. Even homeowners with a Wall Connector already installed sometimes keep one of these around for a second car or a guest’s EV.

    Price and Availability

The Lectron Tesla Charger is available at $149.99 with free shipping, down from a $169.99 list price, according to Lectron’s own site. It’s also carried at Amazon, Best Buy, Lowe’s, and Home Depot. Orders placed directly through Lectron ship within one to two business days.

It comes with the charging cable, the built-in NACS connector, and a carrying case for storage or travel. Tesla owners won’t need any separate adapter, since the NACS plug is already built into the cable itself.
