Emissions regulations, electrification, and ever-stricter fuel economy standards have forced manufacturers to downsize their engines or abandon internal combustion altogether. Even Ferrari has an EV now. The days of the V12 engine are numbered. But they aren’t over, thanks to Zenvo.
Zen who? Granted, the manufacturer may not yet have the brand recognition of Lamborghini, McLaren, or Bugatti. And Zenvo is based in Denmark, which is not exactly a hotbed for exotic cars. However, Zenvo has been around for nearly 20 years now. And quite frankly, they build cars that make Lamborghinis look downright ordinary.
Engineering worthy of the gods
More than just a powerful engine
Their latest creation is the Aurora Tur hypercar. It is powered by a 6.6-liter quad-turbocharged V12. Zenvo calls the V12 engine the Mjølner. If you know your Norse mythology, or are just a fan of Marvel movies, you know that Mjølner is the magical hammer wielded by Thor, the god of thunder.
The Mjølner V12 needs to deliver big power to live up to its legendary name. For starters, the engine alone makes a staggering 1,250 horsepower and revs to 9,800 rpm. Depending on configuration, the hybrid system in the Aurora boosts total output to 1,850 horsepower. Back in the 1970s, Top Fuel dragsters would be lucky to make that much power. So, yeah, the Mjølner V12 has the power to back up its name.
But the Aurora is about more than just big horsepower numbers. The car, which is designed, engineered, and hand-assembled in Præstø, Denmark, has a few other tricks up its sleeve. It uses a carbon fiber monocoque chassis with a pushrod front and rear double-wishbone active suspension. The ride height is adjustable and the car rolls on custom center-lock alloy wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Massive carbon-ceramic brakes are in charge of slowing you down.
Don’t underestimate the importance of those brakes. The Aurora Tur has a claimed top speed of 261 mph. At that speed, you are covering the length of a football field in less than one second. So, you will need brakes that can scrub that speed in a hurry.

Built to dominate the racetrack
Less power, more downforce
If you think the Aurora Tur is outrageous, you should feast your eyes on the Aurora Agil. That is basically the racetrack version of the Tur. While the Agil has a lower top speed of 224 mph and “only” 1,450 horsepower, it makes up for it in other ways.
The Agil rides on ultra-light magnesium wheels because every once matters on the racetrack. The pushrod front- and rear-double-wishbone active suspension is shared with the Tur, but on the Agil it is tuned for an even sharper response. So, if the Tur is a Japanese Gyuto knife, the Agil is an obsidian surgical scalpel.
As impressive as all that is, the Agil party trick is the active rear wing, which includes an air-brake function. The air-brake function maximizes deceleration at high speeds. But the unique rear wing can also generate almost 1,800 lbs. of downforce at 155 mph.

Only 100 people will ever own one
The Aurora Agil show car appeared at the New York Auto Show earlier this year. The Aurora Tur has never been on public display in the U.S. However, during Monterey Car Week, both of these incredible machines will be on display ahead of their planned 2027 production car launch.

In a couple of days, I will be boarding a plane and heading for Monterey Car Week. I hope to catch a glimpse of these incredible hypercars in person. However, catching a glimpse is the best I could ever hope for. The cars are priced from €2.8 million, or roughly $3.2 million. That is a little bit (okay, a lot) out of my price range.
And only 100 Zenvo Aurora vehicles will ever be made. So, even if I hit the Powerball this weekend, I’m unlikely to get an allocation.

But those who are fortunate enough will be getting a real treat. In an era when many manufacturers are simplifying, downsizing, or abandoning internal combustion altogether, Zenvo has taken the opposite approach. It has built an all-new V12. Not because it was the easiest solution, but because it believes some experiences are still worth preserving.
If the Zenvo Aurora delivers on its promise, it won’t just preserve one of the world’s greatest automotive engines. It will serve as a reminder of why 12 cylinders became the benchmark for every dream car in the first place.
