Skyblivion won’t be following the lead of Bethesda’s Oblivion Remastered with a sudden shadow drop of its own, the folks behind the massive Oblivion remake mod have confirmed. Instead, they’ve plans to reveal a new release date for the mod, which was previously being aimed to arrive late last year, when they’re ready.
Responding to some recent fan speculation in Skyblivion’s Discord server about a shadow drop being a possibility for the mod, since its creators only have themselves to answer to rather than any publishers, the mod’s communications lead Evan Flatt ruled out following the same path as the official revamp of The Elder Scrolls 4. “We will not be shadow dropping after over a decade of hard work,” he wrote. “Don’t worry, once we’re ready to give everyone a date we will make sure everyone knows it!”

As much as the modders might have the freedom to release how and when they like, I think setting a date and thus having a chance to build up to release is a shrewd move. Mods can’t rely on the natural x factor of being something from the game’s original studio or devs, as Oblivion Remastered could, so taking time to get folks who might not have been actively keeping tabs on Skyblivion on board is likely for the best. Especially given the delays and public disagreements the project’s suffered, which I’d say have made it even more worth emphasising that it is finally done and on the way, rather than relying on the one-time shock of a release without warning to draw in eyeballs.
While no date’s been set as of right now, Skyblivion’s modders have been clear over the first half of 2026 that they’re gradually ticking boxes as they complete certain aspects of the mod. The Imperial City has been the final major settlement to wrap up work on, and the modders have been seeking more volunteer hands to aid in sorting out remaining work on the likes of quest editing.
Given last year’s planned release fell through, it’s totally understandable that this time, the modders look to be deliberately holding out until they’re as sure as they can be that everything’s sorted and up to the intended standard before setting the release wheels in motion once more.
