At this point in time, it’s rather obvious that AI has become a major selling point for companies left and right, ranging from consumer electronics, all the way to farming equipment—more specifically, tractor manufacturer John Deere recently introduced “JD,” a new artificial intelligence assistant built into its Operations Center platform that allows farmers to query their field, machine, and operational data using natural language.

Instead of navigating complex interfaces and manual reports, farmers can now simply ask the AI direct questions about their operations to surface practical, customized insights. For example, users can ask the system to compare fuel use during tillage over the past three years to identify savings, analyze how equipment settings can affect crop yield, track which sprayer operators cover the most acres per hour, and even determine the best time to harvest based on past trends and data. Deanna Kovar, President, Worldwide Ag & Turf Division at John Deere comments:

Farmers receive value from their data when they can use it to make better decisions, and we believe that value should come with control, transparency, and choice… Our view is simple: farmers should control their data, clearly understand how it is used, and benefit from the insights it can create. JD and the Farmer Data Commitment are part of the same vision for helping farmers put their data to work on their terms.

The company is also reinforcing its Farmer Data Commitment to assure users they maintain total ownership and control of their information; John Deere strictly mandates that it does not sell user data, nor does it use the information for commodity trading or speculation.

The company is currently opening a limited Early Access Program for select U.S. agricultural customers; the JD assistant is slated for a wider release later this year across the Operations Center’s web and mobile platforms, with eventual expansion directly into in-cab displays.
