Nintendo has historically been very cagey about who actually develops its games; particularly in the last handful of years. With the likes of Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, and Mario & Luigi: Brothership, we typically didn’t know for definite who the developer is until close to launch (despite often having fairly accurate hunches).
So naturally, it only makes us even more curious about who is working on the upcoming Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2. We’ve already thrown a few potential hats into the ring, but one Norwegian retailer seems to think it’s got it nailed down.
A store page on Elkjøp (thanks, Notebook Check) lists Ocarina of Time as being developed by Monolith Soft, the studio behind the Xenoblade Chronicles series that Nintendo wholly acquired in December 2024. The publisher, meanwhile, is Bergsala, which is a Swedish distribution company that handles Nintendo products for Nordic regions. Makes sense.

With the developer, however, we’re going to assume at this time that Elkjøp is simply making a wild guess. There’s absolutely no evidence to suggest that Monolith Soft is behind the upcoming remake, and it’s likely we won’t know who the developer is until the game launches.
Is it possible? Sure. But we know so little about the game right now that we could suggest any developer and it might sound reasonably viable. Grezzo, Capcom, Outright Games… Okay, maybe not that last one. You get the idea, though.
Monolith Soft being revealed as the developer wouldn’t be a massive surprise given its talents and extensive support work on the likes of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. It’s very busy working on Xenoblade Genesis right now, though, so unless it wrapped development on Ocarina a little while back, we think it’s a stretch to say that the team is juggling both at the same time.
Hopefully we won’t have to wait much longer to find out more, so let’s keep our eyes and ears open.
