It looks like we’re about to get some interesting new changes to Google Chrome—new information now suggests that Google is testing a new “Ask Google from anywhere” interface for its floating desktop search bar on Windows. The feature was also previously known as “Omnibox Everywhere” or “Loomnibox.”

As reported by the folks over at Windows Report, The feature can be activated using the Alt + Space shortcut from outside the Chrome browser, and now features a direct prompt encouraging users to ask questions about anything displayed on their screen. The messaging also heavily emphasizes Google Lens integration, allowing desktop users to select specific areas or their screen to provide visual context, though the dedicated Lens and AI Mode buttons are still rolling out in testing.

Google is also giving testers the option to keep the default Alt + Space shortcut or set it to a preferred key combination, with configuration settings accessible directly within Chrome. Because the feature remains heavily in development, the final public release may include further interface adjustments or modified functionality before a wider rollout.

In other recent Google news, the company recently announced that it’s in the process of rolling out new key updates to Google Translate—for one, Android users can now run live translations in the background, allowing them to lock their screens or use other apps without interrupting the audio. Meanwhile, users with iPhones can now listen to live translations directly through their device’s earpiece, a feature that was previously brought to Android devices.
