Foldables have been on the general smartphone market for more than half a decade now, although a lot are expecting things to heat up with the upcoming launch of Apple’s first-ever foldable iPhone. So much so in fact that other companies are trying to beat Apple to the punch—and this time, it’s Xiaomi who’s under the spotlight.
More specifically, we’re talking about the Xiaomi 18 Fold, which finally made its debut for buyers in China. Running on Xiaomi’s Android 17-based HyperOS 4 platform, the device is powered by the company’s own 3nm XRing O3 chipset, and is paired with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage.
In terms of aesthetics, the Xiaomi 18 Fold takes a similar approach as with rivals from Samsung and Apple, with a short and wide passport-like form factor. In front, the phone comes with a 7.58-inch LTPO AMOLED main display with a resolution of 2364 x 1672 pixels and 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, HDR Vivid, and a peak brightness of 4,000 nits. Meanwhile, the cover display uses Xiaomi’s Dragon Crystal Glass 3 on top of a 5.38-inch LTPO AMOLED panel.
The Xiaomi 18 Fold comes with a camera system which features a 200-megapixel primary wide sensor with OIS, which is accompanied by a 50-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 50-megapixel ultrawide sensor. Both the inner folding screen and the cover screen house identical 16-megapixel front-facing cameras for selfies and video calls.
Finally, powering the Xiaomi 18 Fold is a massive 6000 mAh silicon-carbon Li-Ion battery supporting 67W fast wired charging, 50W Power Delivery 3.0, 50W PPS, 50W wireless charging, and reverse wired charging capabilities. Available in Gray, Silver, Red, and Rose gold colorways, the device is priced at around 1400 EUR, which is not too surprising given the surge in smartphone costs over the past few months.

With all that said however, Xiaomi hasn’t specified when (or if) it plans to bring the Xiaomi 18 Fold to more regions outside China. Given the fierce foldable competition this year however, seeing more brands out on more accessible markets is always welcome.
