    Add Android Authority on Google:

    TL;DR

    • Amazon Alexa has been exhibiting strange behavior.
    • Users report that the assistant is getting stuck repeating the word “la.”
    • Examples show Alexa repeating the word for several minutes before it stops.

Update: October 5, 2026 (11:56 PM ET): Amazon has now confirmed to Android Authority that Alexa’s strange affliction was indeed a bug impacting “a small number of Alexa Plus” users. The company says it’s in the process of implementing a fix.

Original article: October 5, 2026 (11:34 AM ET): Sometimes, AI assistants inexplicably start acting up out of nowhere. For example, Gemini was refusing to answer questions on Android Auto just last week. But Google isn’t the only company that’s been having problems with its AI assistant in recent days. Amazon’s Alexa has also been exhibiting rather strange behavior recently.

Over the last month, users have been sharing reports about an issue with Alexa. It appears the AI will get stuck repeating the word “la” over and over again. According to these reports, Alexa will continue saying this word for several minutes before it stops. You can check out an example of the error in the video below.

This isn’t the first time Alexa has been caught going haywire. Only a couple of months ago, users were taken aback when Alexa emitted guttural sounds, like those of a snarling animal. At least this most recent problem is a little less unnerving than that.

It’s unclear what’s causing Alexa to meltdown like this, but some users are blaming a recent update. Android Authority has reached out to Amazon for comment on the issue. This article will be updated when new information becomes available. Until then, let us know if you’ve encountered this bug on any of your devices.
