Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii has released a brand new game, but with a twist: it’s completely AI-generated.
As covered by VGC, Horii-san posted a link on X to a game titled Interrogation Room Komiya in which you select a series of text prompts to push a suspect into confessing to a crime. The creator claims that the game was made in “about 30 minutes” with the help of AI, calling the technology “truly astonishing”.
Just be aware that some nuance may have been lost in translation along the way, but here’s what Horii-san said:
“Long ago, when I made The Portopia Serial Murder Case on a PC, I came up with the story myself, drew the pictures myself, did the programming myself, and created the game all by myself.
“And now, by using AI, even if I can’t draw pictures or program, I can just give instructions to the AI and create a decent game all by myself. It’s truly astonishing. By the way, the production time for the game below was just about 30 minutes. Oh, and don’t press the boost button.”
It’s not the first time Horii-san has praised AI, either. As reported by Automaton toward the end of 2025, he was keen on the idea of using an AI chatbot in a quiz or mystery game, stating that the player could theoretically chat with the bot to solve cases. When asked whether he would be interested in incorporating AI into his future games, he replied with a simple “yes”.
AI comes in many forms, so we’ll have to wait and see exactly how Horii-san intends to use it going forward. Though many developers have claimed they will not showcase generative AI in finished products, they are nevertheless open to using it to improve efficiency and speed up development.
Other developers, however, are against the use of AI. One major risk is the potential loss of more junior-level roles within development teams as AI begins to take over. David Gaider, former Dragon Age narrative lead, spoke to GamesRadar+ and asked “How are we going to train up the next generation of devs if we eliminate every entry-level task?”
