For anyone comparing pairs in our best headphones 2026 guide, £176.40 is a strong price for the over-ear noise cancellers that headed Sony’s range at launch, and this listing also includes a collapsible hard case in the box for travel.
That case earns its place on journeys where the noise cancelling matters most, with four microphones per earcup capturing ambient sound and Sony’s Auto NC Optimizer adjusting the cancellation to your conditions, from a rattling train carriage to a busy café.
Once the noise drops away, the precision-engineered driver brings out detail in the higher frequencies across every genre. LDAC support then opens up Hi-Res Audio Wireless playback from compatible phones, and Sony’s Sound Connect app lets you tune the EQ to your taste.

That listening runs for up to 30 hours on a single charge, enough to cover a long flight and several days of commuting, and three minutes plugged into a USB-PD adapter adds another three hours when you are short on time.
Those hours stay comfortable too, with plush cushions and an adjustable headband spreading a light 250g frame across your head, while Fast Pair and Swift Pair connect the WH-1000XM5 quickly to Android phones and Windows laptops.
