From the end of this month, August, Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service will be the first one to use Samsung’s newest HDR10+ Advanced format on “supported titles globally”. Thus, a Samsung TV from the Korean company’s 2026 lineup will be required to take advantage of the new format.

Furthermore, HDR10+ Advanced is an upgrade to the HDR10+ format. This time, it comes with Enhanced Overall Brightness. According to the official press release, it uses extended statistical metadata to “make fuller use of today’s premium TV brightness capabilities, thereby providing brighter and more precise HDR across the full tonal range”.

Moreover, AI-driven tone mapping is there to preserve shadow detail in darker scenes and deliver the heightened brightness that sports and action content demand as well.

Also, the HDR10+ Advanced comes with Intelligent Motion Smoothing. This utilises scene-by-scene metadata, thereby enabling compatible displays to dynamically adjust motion processing. The process preserves the cinematic feel of film content, as it delivers smooth, natural motion for sports, action, and other fast-moving scenes as well.

Additionally, in December 2017, Prime Video was also the first to offer HDR10+, and now, it’s the first streaming service to support the new format as well.
