As a relatively new Apple Vision Pro user, this is my favorite way to use it

Apple Vision Pro is one of Apple’s most interesting hardware releases yet. It’s technically very impressive, yet it seems almost certain that this form factor won’t last – and is instead just a temporary platform to introduce visionOS to the world before we eventually get glasses.

I did buy one late last year, and while I haven’t been a major user of it, there is one use case that genuinely makes it enjoyable.

When Vision Pro launched, the potential seemed endless. It’d be the headset to end all screens. Mac Virtual Display seemed awesome, and so did the idea of spatial FaceTime – even if Persona’s were a bit jarring at launch.

Then, once the honeymoon phase wore off, people started to realize the headset was quite heavy, making it hard to use for a long period of time. This meant that a lot of people begun selling their Vision Pros, allowing you to pick up a used one for a substantially discounted price.

They average around $1500 right now – a much smaller pill to swallow than the new $3699 starting price point.

If Vision Pro excels at one thing, it’s content consumption. The App Store might not be the most compelling in most regards, though you do have most streaming apps, including Disney+, HBO Max, and even YouTube now. Netflix is the biggest outlier. Of course, you also have Apple TV.

The best way to enjoy Vision Pro

Outgoing Apple CEO Tim Cook shared his favorite way to use Vision Pro back in January 2025, and recently referenced it again last month in an interview at the season 4 premiere of Ted Lasso:

Funnily enough, Cook was asked if he plans to watch Ted Lasso season 4 on Apple Vision Pro. That was reportedly how he watched season 3. “Oh yes, of course, and watch it lying down on Vision Pro, there’s nothing quite like that.”

I can’t say I exclusively watch shows and movies in Vision Pro. It’s a lot to commit to sometimes, since multitasking on Vision Pro is sometimes a struggle with its poor software keyboard.

When I am watching a show or movie in Vision Pro, though, I am exclusively doing it using the Tim Cook method: lying down and staring upwards. It completely erases the weight concern, and is a pretty relaxing experience if you have the time to commit to it.

Vision Pro is a rather expensive product to only use to occasionally watch television, at least at its MSRP. With how much they’ve depreciated though, I think buying one just to use as a bedtime face TV isn’t necessarily an awful idea. It’s an enjoyable experience, especially when you’re watching in 3D.

    My favorite Apple accessory recommendations:
