During the PlayStation State of Play today, Double Fine went ahead and shadowdropped Keeper onto PS5.

It’s an interesting moment purely because Double Fine was wholly owned by Microsoft at the start of this year, and Keeper was an Xbox and PC exclusive game. But then Xbox went and didn’t just upset the apple cart, it went and nuked the bloody thing by laying off heaps of people and getting rid of multiple studios, including Double Fine.

Keeper is a game about being a walking, sentient lighthouse, which is about as crazy a setup as you’d expect from Double Fine. Now that they are out from Microsoft’s ownership, Double Fine has clearly decided to get Keeper out there to as many people as possible to help generate cash to keep them afloat. And why not? Now more people can play as a sentient Lighthouse.

That’s possible because Double Fine actually got to keep all of their IP. However, Keeper is the only game Double Fine made while under Xbox that was actually exclusive to Xbox/PC. Psychonauts 2 launched on PS4, and Kiln came out on the PS5 during that period when Xbox decided to be a multiplatform publisher.

As for Double Fine, they currentky have a Kickstarter running to help support Amnesia Fortnight, a two-week period where the team is going to create heaps of little prototypes and let the community decide what is worth making into a small production game.

That Kickstarter is also where they stated they’ll make Brutal Legend 2, if people can raise $100 million. Seems unlikely, but I live in hope.
