It Takes Two is an amazing co-op title that never seems to get old no matter how many times you play it. Whether you want to sit on the couch and play the game with your significant other, or jump online and play the game with your friend, you are sure to have a blast.

Of course, a major part of this title is working together to complete puzzles, traverse the map, and complete the game. You simply cannot do it alone, which is why this game will test your friendship.

You are bound to fight, yell about ways to complete puzzles, and laugh at your stupidity when you fail. It will test your friendship in the best possible way. Some sections are particularly challenging here, and will test your ability to cooperate in the very best ways.

Gaming is always better with a friend.

    8

    Moving a Ball

    Point A To Point B

After progressing far enough through Rose’s room, you come across a circus area and are immediately introduced to a Jack-in-the-Box toy that guides you to the princess. Of course, you can’t simply run up to the castle.

Instead, you need to transport a ball from one area to another via contraptions. Like everything in It Takes Two, moving the ball is a team effort. You need to move objects, spin contraptions, and more, and it takes both of you to move them.

Doing this while also moving the ball is difficult work, and it will test how well you coordinate. Move too slowly, and one of you might start yelling at the other to pick up the pace.

    7

    Magnetism

    Attract and Repel

The snow globe level can be a bit tricky in some areas, but there is no area that tests friendships as much as the one where one player needs to launch disks at the wall while the other pulls themselves over.

During this section of the game, you get a slingshot, and you need to use it to launch pucks at the wall. These pucks are magnetized, and the other player needs to stick to them to cross multiple gaps.

Again, both players are required for this, and it is a test that will show how reliable your friend is at creating what is essentially a bridge for you to cross these gaps. Done incorrectly, this leads to some major frustrations, but it is hilarious.

    6

    Flying

    And Mortal Kombat

You’ve escaped a tree full of squirrels that are out for blood, and boarded a plane made from wood scraps and underwear. Once you take flight, you and your friend need to work together to escape.

After navigating a treacherous tree course, the chief squirrel jumps out of the branches, landing atop your getaway plane. Now the game turns into a fight to the death for one character and a flight simulator for the other.

While one of you fights the squirrel, the other must navigate around tree branches so that the plane doesn’t crash. It is a moment that will test your friendship by testing how well each of you can handle your respective tasks. If one of you fails, you both go down, so try not to get distracted by the fight happening if you are the one flying the plane.

    5

    Running Through a Spaceship

    While the Other Dodges Lasers

Some of the greatest tests of friendship in It Takes Two require one player to perform a task while the other waits on them, and that is the case for the boss fight against Moon Baboon. How well do you trust your friend to survive a platforming course while you dodge lasers?

During the Moon Baboon fight, one player goes inside the boss’s UFO. This player must navigate a series of platforms while dodging electricity and various other obstacles, to shut down the boss’s flying machine. The other player must survive an onslaught of lasers in the boss arena.

Every time I have played this boss fight, it has resulted in both players yelling at one another in a desperate attempt to keep each other alive, and it is always hilarious.

    4

    Boat Battles

    Controlling the Wheels

There are few things more frustrating than needing to navigate using a vehicle while you only control half of it, but that is what you need to do during the boat battle sequence, as both you and your friend control one half of the boat.

This is one of the greatest tests of coordination in It Takes Two, as you and your friend need to navigate a series of obstacles, take out multiple enemies, and even fight a boss while using this mechanic.

It is a serious test of friendship, as you need to rely on your partner to not turn the wrong way, preventing you from moving. Sometimes, you may just end up spinning in circles.

    3

    Back to School

    Don’t Fail Your Lesson

As you progress through Rose’s room, you will cross a series of obstacles and then be taken to school; literally. You and your friend will land in a classroom and be required to do Rose’s homework.

These short puzzles require you to quickly add numbers, flip matching tiles in a memory game, and play a game of connect the dots. If you don’t finish quick enough, both of you get flattened.

It is nerve-racking, and puts a lot of pressure on both of you to perform well. It is one of those moments where you need to be able to rely on your abilities and your friend’s, and if you fail, you both go down. Of course, your friend can also mess with you on purpose, which is something that has happened to me a bunch, but it was hilarious each time.

    2

    Platforming

    In Space

One of the more tedious parts of It Takes Two is the beginning of the Rose’s room level. As you make your way through the space section, you need to push batteries into their slots to power an elevator.

You and your friend will complete various puzzles during this time, but the one that tests friendships the most is the side-scrolling platforming section, as it requires you to work together.

Part of this section requires one player to hold a grapple, while the other hooks onto it. You go back and forth like this, and it is very easy for your friend to let go and fly off into space. It it one of those moments where your friend can easily become your worst enemy because they find it fun to let go.

    1

    Animal Rail Callout

    Press the Right Animal Button

The most annoying section of It Takes Two for me is the part in Rose’s room where you and your friend must ride the rails. These rails are blocked by various walls with animal faces on them.

While one person rides the rail, they must call out which animal they see. Meanwhile, their partner must press the corresponding animal button to move the wall.

My friend and I would turn on each other, purposefully pressing the wrong button to watch each other perish, more times than I would like to admit. It is one of those puzzles where you can easily mess with your friend and be entertained for hours. It will undoubtedly test whether you and your friend get along or if you are more likely to betray each other repeatedly (all in good fun of course).
