We’re halfway, folks, and you know what that means: A new league for patch 0.5.5 of Path of Exile 2, created in order to keep us busy until the huge 1.0 drop later on this year.
While this league isn’t going to be as massive and content-filled as the previous one, there are enough changes for you to get stuck in and re-level a new character or 2, or simply try a build that you haven’t played before. New challenges, a new economy, and lots of riches are up for grabs, so what are you waiting for?

For the daring Exile… Chaos awaits!
Let’s take a look at some of the more impactful changes released in patch 0.5.5, so you can plan your route and get grinding!
10
Boss Resistance Changes
Don’t Use Fire on the Big Fiery Dude!
This is a bit of a small one, but it will certainly help those who tend to struggle with some of the main bosses during the endgame portion of the League.
Now, many bosses, like the Arbiter of Ash and Divinity, Omniphobia and the Raven Trickster, no longer have a blanket elemental resistance. The resistances they offer now are more thematic. For example, the Arbiter of Ash will resist fire and be weak to cold, whereas the Arbiter of Divinity will resist Lightning and be weak to fire.
So if you’re really struggling with the Fortress, it might be worth looking at your build and weaving in some extra skills to address those weaknesses.

8 New Challenges
Alas, Exile, You Can Rest Now
Of course, a new League brings fresh challenges, and like the previous one, these are no joke. It’s pretty well known that PoE2 is a pretty long game, and it’s hard for some people to know when to quit. Do you finish after the campaign, or after all the pinnacle bosses, or until you can afford a Mirror? Who knows?
These new sets of challenges offer a great jumping-off point for people who struggle to leave on their own. Once you finish these challenges and collect the rewards, you can happily turn off the game… at least until the next league.
Naturally, these challenges are more Ritual-themed, featuring things like completing all the ritual gauntlets in the campaign and securing unique items from Rituals, using Omens, and of course, reaching level 90.

Corrupted Nexus Retries
Beat Back the Corruption, Lest it Spread Further
The early mapping stages of the endgame can always feel a bit odd. You’re getting used to your build, or you may be about to swap it for something new when you hit that important level. The point is, you might be dying quite a lot, especially when moving up to the next map tier.
That’s why failing a Corrupted Nexus always felt horrible. You’d get through these corrupted maps, which already have +1 to map difficulty, only to reach the middle and then fail the entire thing, just because you died to the final double boss.
Well, now you won’t have to worry about that, as you’re able to retry the final boss, and you won’t need to search around the entire map for a new spot of corruption.
7
Runes of Aldur Rotation
Reveal the Secrets Hidden Below
A new League comes forth, and as such, the old one moves into rotation. Now, in order to perform expeditions like in the Runes of Aldur, you’ll be able to find new Tablets that spawn expeditions in your maps.
Seeing as though you can have a maximum of 4 tablets working at once, every new tablet will give you extra bonuses, with the 3rd tablet giving you a 2nd Kalguuran Expedition. In addition, there are new modifiers to play around with if expeditions are your thing! After completing Farrow’s quest in Act 4, he can be found in your hideout.
6
Sacred Blooms
Follow the Wisps Through the Whispering Woods
The new league introduced some interesting new items, found after completing rituals. These are called Sacred Blooms and can be purchased with your hard-earned Tribute.
You can use one of these Blooms in an area to spawn a Viridian Wildwood. In this unique map, you can collect a series of wisps, and upon finishing the map, every map that lies within this area will be affected by the type of wisp you collected. This is a great way to juice your maps to the extreme, and it will lead to some pretty crazy rewards. So look out for those Sacred Blooms!
5
Brand-New Soul Cores
Chaos Bears New Fruit
While 0.5.5 didn’t add a massive amount of new content to the game, a nice change was the addition of a bunch of new Soul Cores, which add a bit of spice to your old builds.
The new Jiquani Cores can be socketed in a weapon and focus on increasing the level of skills that have a certain tag attached to them. For example, the Soul Core of Abundance will add +1 to the level of all Plant Skills, whereas the Soul Core of Munitions works for Grenade Skills. Levels are pretty crucial in terms of endgame damage scaling, so keep an eye on these.
The Atziri Soul Cores, on the other hand, give buffs depending on the amount of Corrupted gear you have equipped. For example, the Soul Core of Vitality will give a 1% increase to Max Health per corrupted piece, which is better than the Soul Core of Jiquani if you have more than 5 pieces.
4
Abyssal Ravines
The Abyss Scars the Land Once More
If you like the Abyss, well you’re in luck, because Abyss is getting a little buff. Now, you can find Abyssal Ravines as you expand your endgame map.
These Ravines function pretty similarly to the main Abyss quest that you go through upon starting the endgame. Each map along the ravine contains guaranteed Abyss encounters, and on the final map of the ravine, you’ll find a boss encounter depending on the kind of Faction that you encountered on the way.
While this isn’t exactly a massive buff to Abyss, it does make the endgame farming cycle a little more interesting!
3
A Speedier Fortress
Conquering the Atlas in Record Time
This was a fantastic new change added to the Fortress. In the previous League, every time you killed the Arbiter of Divinity, you would gain all the Atlas points in a single zone in the Fortress. This meant that you’d need to collect the Origen key pieces and kill the Arbiter 5 times to unlock the whole thing! Which was a bit of a slog.
However, now this only needs to be done twice: first for the normal quest variant, and once more with the more difficult version of the Arbiter. At that point, you’ll be able to allocate the entire Atlas Tree!
In addition, the 2nd Patriarch and Matriarch halls will appear closer to the centre of the Map, so you don’t need to go searching for a ridiculously long distance away from the centre now.

Improvements to the Trials of Chaos
Chaos is a Ladder…
One of the biggest improvements this league made was the changes to the Trial of Chaos.
If you’ve done this trial a few times now, you’ll know that it’s always been a bit of a pain, and honestly, most players just want to get it over and done with for their Ascendancy points. However, now, many of those pain points have been smoothed over, making it a viable farming method for all levels.
Time-wasting moments like the Trialmaster pausing time and the big Stone doors have been removed; there’s a larger focus on combat, you can do 30-room runs for guaranteed Fate Fragments, and modifiers give increased rarity, among other things. All of this makes it a much better experience, and honestly, I’m having fun going through and hoarding currency!
1
Forbidden Rites Event
Only Through Great Sacrifice can Glory be Taken
And finally, there’s the current league mechanic. Compared to some of the other leagues, this one is pretty small. It is 0.5.5, after all, a stopgap before we get the big 1.0!
This feature is only available in the campaign and the interludes. Basically, on the map, you’ll see these ritual pillars linking certain areas together. When you beat the main boss of that level, you’ll have to kill it again, and then it will be stored in the ritual pillar.
When you head to the next boss, after the main fight, you’ll have to repeat the first boss and the 2nd in a boss gauntlet. This repeats up to 4 times, where you’ll have to fight all those bosses back-to-back. Thankfully, this encounter gives you a lot of useful rewards, like Currency and Uniques to make your levelling experience easier!
While it may not be the biggest or most unique league mechanic ever, it definitely made my playthrough a bit less tedious!
