At BlizzCon 2026, I was sitting in on a press conference about Diablo 5 with a number of the game’s design leads. Near the end, a question was asked about what platforms the game would be available on, since none had been announced alongside the game’s reveal. Game director Joe Shely replied, saying they had nothing to announce, but that they “want as many people to be able to play Diablo 5 as possible.”
Then, something odd happened. From the corner of the room, one of the PR/comms folks (I couldn’t see who from where I was sitting), loudly whispered, “PC version.”
There was a smattering of laughter. “You’re not supposed to tell them!” Shely said, teasingly.
“If we’re not on the PC, we’ve got problems,” they replied.
So, uh, I guess Diablo 5 is coming to PC then? But also, like…why act all secretive about it? Why not just say that during BlizzCon? Even if you don’t want to announce which consoles it will be on yet, if any, PC at minimum feels like such an obvious place to put Diablo that you hardly even need to confirm it. It’s just automatically assumed at this point.
This gets even weirder when you combine it with the fact that StarCraft, a game that is even farther away than Diablo 5 by a whole year at least, also received exactly one very weird platform confirmation: it’s confirmed for Xbox, via the Xbox UK X account of all things. That information wasn’t posted anywhere else. No one, as far as I know, mentioned it at BlizzCon. What? Why? Why have we not confirmed a PC version for that game, too?

I reached out to Blizzard after the event to ask about all this, and was given this statement: “We are not announcing platforms today. We are building Diablo V for Spring 2029 and StarCraft for 2030 and will share platform details when we are ready.”
I followed up with them afterward to see what they had to say about the PC and Xbox platform announcements for each respective game, and I’ll update when I hear back.
I do not think any of this is a vast conspiracy of any kind; I just think it’s weird. It’s weird! It’s weird to pretend that Diablo 5 and StarCraft will not be on PC, when the entire history of both franchises is there. It’s weird to announce an Xbox release of a game coming in 2030 but not of one coming in 2029 unless you don’t plan on putting the 2029 game on Xbox, which Xbox almost assuredly does intend to do. I didn’t really expect them to say anything about PlayStation here, admittedly, but given that Diablos 1-4 are all available on a Sony console somewhere, it seems like a wild move to leave that huge chunk of the Diablo-loving audience worried that they might be excluded come spring 2029.
So, yeah, I can confirm Diablo 5 is coming to PC. I don’t know who was worried that wouldn’t happen, but if you were, please rest easy tonight. I have no idea when we’ll learn about anything else on anything else (I’ve asked Blizzard that, too).
