A new report has shown that WhatsApp has added a new feature via a server-side update. This implies that you don’t necessarily have to own a specific app version to get it. It’s rolling out to both Android and iOS.
This simply means that WhatsApp will prevent you from logging in until you update your phone’s operating system to a newer version. Thus, WhatsApp tells those with outdated version of Android or iOS to go to their phone’s Settings and apply a system update first. It’ll work after you do that. All you need to do is to try logging into WhatsApp again.
Also, the screen will show you how to check the current version of your phone’s operating system, in case you’re not sure. WhatsApp won’t allow you to skip any of this, for security reasons.
As WhatsApp is yet to announce if it’s targeting specific older versions of Android and iOS, it remains unclear who it plans on showing the new screen to.
