Alongside the news Electronic Arts is shutting down BioWare and reports about it axing around 400 jobs across the entire company, EA executives have also revealed future development plans.
According to an internal letter to staff, reviewed by Bloomberg, EA says it will continue investing in sports games (such as EA FC). Development on its online battle royale Apex Legends also remains a top priority, and it’s supposedly still committed to its next Star Wars Jedi title as well as a new Marvel game starring Iron Man.
The Battlefield franchise has also been given the all-clear. Respawn and DICE will also collaborate on a new project, which is apparently “likely be another entry in the Star Wars: Battlefront series”. “Project Lotus” (part of The Sims franchise) is also being cancelled, with focus shifting to “Project Evergreen“. And the team behind skate will be downsized.
EA is making these decisions based on where it sees “the greatest opportunities for players and long-term growth,” according to company executives:
“Across our portfolio, we’re making deliberate choices to align talent and investments where we see the greatest opportunities for players and long-term growth.”
As Bloomberg notes, EA went private in August 2026 “following a $55 billion leveraged buyout led by Saudi Arabia’s investment fund, which placed around $18 billion in debt on EA’s books”. The 400 layoffs (“roughly” 50 at BioWare) will apparently save up to $700 million, cutting research and development costs.
If there are any significant updates about EA’s future development plans or the reported job cuts, we’ll let you know.
