Marvelous announced that a Story of Seasons mobile game in the Bokujou Monogatari series is canceled following the “termination of the capital and business alliance” with Tencent and its Image Frame Investment. This happened at a July 31, 2026 Board of Directors meeting for the company. It also means Outside Director Shin Joon Oh resigned as a result of the termination. However, while this title won’t happen, the two companies do still possess an active licensing agreement for the IP.
No details about the canceled Story of Seasons mobile game came up during the announcement. It only noted that the title was in active development prior to all these changes. The statement cited “project profitability” and “business environment” as the two reasons why this project isn’t happening.

This change also means a shift in shareholders for Marvelous. Tencent Holdings Limited is no longer an “other affiliated company,” “largest major shareholder,” and “major shareholder.” Hayao Nakayama should now be the largest major shareholder and Amuse Capital Investment Company will be a major shareholder as a result.
The last Story of Seasons game to appear was a remake of Grand Bazaar. That remake the original DS game from 2008. It first showed up on the Switch, Switch 2, and PC in August 2025, but in May 2026 we also saw it appear on the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
