Apple has officially announced its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, entering direct competition with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. Designed to resemble a compact iPad when opened, the device features an asymmetrical build with rounded right corners, straight left edges, a horizontal camera bar, and a durable titanium and steel frame. It measures 5.2 mm unfolded and 11.3 mm folded, earning an IP68 dust- and water-resistance rating.

The device features two Super Retina XDR OLED displays with 120 Hz ProMotion and peak brightness up to 3,000 nits: an external 5.4-inch panel (2034 x 1398) and a foldable internal 7.6-inch screen (2670 x 1878) featuring an anti-reflective nano-texture finish engineered to eliminate screen creasing. Both screens will support the Apple Pencil USB-C in a planned software update.

Under the hood, the iPhone Duo runs on Apple’s A20 Pro chipset alongside a vapor chamber cooling system to manage thermals. Power efficiency is further assisted by the proprietary Apple C2 modem, enabling up to 24 hours of battery life. The smartphone supports 60 W wired charging and MagSafe wireless charging.

The camera system includes dual rear sensors: a 48 MP main camera and a 48 MP ultrawide camera. Selfies rely on an external 12 MP punch-hole camera and an under-display camera on the inner fold.

    Additional hardware features include:

    • Exclusive eSIM connectivity and 5G support
    • Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and NFC
    • Side-mounted Touch ID sensor
    • USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) port
    • Multitasking-tailored iOS 27 operating system

The iPhone Duo launches in the United States on October 23 in black and white finishes. US pricing starts at $1,999 for the base 256 GB storage tier, with higher-capacity configurations scaling through 512 GB, 1 TB, and up to 2 TB.
