A new investigation by the US International Trade Commission (USITC) over spatial audio patent infringement could result in bans for Apple, Samsung and Google devices in the US. BoomCloud 360 is a relatively small audio company based in California which focuses on cloud sound optimization software for movies, games and music. It also holds valuable patents in the domain of spatial audio, which have been the subject of the ongoing probe.
The original complaint was filed back in August and includes three patent disputes which BoomCloud 360 claims are being infringed upon by devices from Apple, Samsung and Google. The patents are related to spatial audio processing and BoomCloud 360 is asking for a Limited Exclusion Order that covers all infringing products alongside a cease-and-desist order. There are no details as to which specific products from the three tech giants are infringing upon BoomCloud 360’s patents.
Apple, Samsung and Google have already filed for declaratory judgment cases against the plaintiff so it remains to be seen how things will play out.
