We’ve heard in recent weeks about the “limited edition” 40th Zelda collection (comprised of hardware and accessories) selling out at select locations around the globe.
Now, more retailers and online stores are supposedly running out of copies of the actual game. Demand exceeding supply isn’t exactly uncommon in this space nowadays, but what’s also reportedly caught some retailers off guard is the limited-edition textured foil cover for the Switch 2 version of Ocarina of Time.
IGN Brazil recently spoke to Gamer Hut commercial director Ricardo Vieira about the game’s physical software sales outperforming the team’s “most optimistic expectations”. While the company initially felt prepared during the purchase forecast period, this quickly changed when the first print cover was announced during the Direct.
Here’s what he had to say (via My Nintendo News):
“When we made our purchase forecast, months in advance, we didn’t yet know about the foil cover. For a pre-order under the conditions we knew at that time, we felt we were well prepared. As soon as Nintendo Direct presented this special packaging in limited quantities, I contacted them and asked to double our order, which was already large. But production could no longer accommodate an additional order.”
Many online retailers have also experienced temporary sellouts of the physical version, and there are even disclaimers on Nintendo’s Store in some parts of the world, noting how pre-orders are still expected to receive stock from the “first print run”. However, they won’t be available forever.
Here’s the post currently up on the Nintendo Australia Store:
“Pre-purchases placed now are still expected to receive stock from the first print run, with textured foil cover art. This page will be updated when the special packaging is no longer in stock.”
