Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra in February 2023 with Android 13-based One UI 5.1, and later in October, the brand introduced the Galaxy S23 FE with the same OS. But that was the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered model, as the Exynos 2200-powered version ran Android 14-based One UI 6 out of the box. Regardless of which model you own, the Android 17-based One UI 9 will be the last major OS upgrade for the smartphone.

This revelation comes through an X user who posted a screenshot of an alleged chat with a Samsung Korea representative, confirming Android 17 as the last OS upgrade for the Galaxy S23 FE with model designation SM-S711N. That – you guessed it right – is the Korean S23 FE, powered by the Exynos 2200 SoC, which ran Android 14 out of the box and not Android 13.

    Samsung Galaxy S23 FE

Since the Galaxy S23 lineup came with the promise of four OS upgrades, the Korean/Exynos-powered S23 FE should receive Android 18 as the last major OS upgrade. And that’s something the Samsung representative also confirmed, as they said the smartphone was initially supposed to receive OS upgrades till Android 18, but plans changed.

It’s also worth noting that all Galaxy S23 FE models, except the one launched in the US, are powered by the Exynos 2200 chip. The US model has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC at the helm.

    Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

That said, Android 17-based One UI 9 won’t be the last major OS upgrade only for the S23 FE, but also for the other three smartphones in the S23 lineup. Samsung is already working on One UI 9 for the S23 series, but we don’t have an exact date for the rollout of the stable version.
