Anthropic said its Claude for Teachers product is now available to schools and districts as a free Enterprise offering, extending a program it launched for individual educators in July. Qualifying organizations that sign up by June 30, 2027 receive a full year of free access.

The announcement, dated August 28, 2026, lets school and district leaders bring educators and staff into one centrally managed organization under a single set of K-12 terms. Anthropic introduced Claude for Teachers on July 14, 2026 for verified U.S. K-12 educators, with teaching skills grounded in learning science and a direct connection to academic standards in all 50 states.

    How It Works

A school or district administrator gets verified, accepts the K-12 terms and student data privacy agreement, and connects an email domain and single sign-on. From there, educators and school staff get free access to Claude for Teachers, including the teaching skills, the state standards and curricula beneath them, and connections to K-12 tools teachers already use.

Usage limits match individual Claude for Teachers accounts at no cost, and overage billing is off by default unless an administrator opts in. Administrators manage the accounts through a suite of enterprise features such as role-based access control and single sign-on, and can add and remove staff, set policies, and see adoption across schools. Through domain capture, teachers who already verified on the school or district’s domain move into the centrally managed account.

    Terms and Student Data Privacy

The school or district holds the terms and privacy agreement. Anthropic provides school and district-level K-12 terms and a Data Processing Agreement so that one set of commitments aligned with FERPA — the federal student privacy law — applies across the organization. Anthropic said Claude for Teachers data is not used for model training and that student information is protected by its K-12 Data Processing Agreement.

The company’s data and terms documentation states that Anthropic will not use educators’ inputs or outputs to train its models, that educators keep the rights to their inputs and own their outputs, and that the educator or district acts as the data controller while Anthropic acts as a processor. The documentation says Anthropic does not sell or share student data, does not use it for advertising or marketing, and does not collect student data directly from students. Claude for Teachers is an educator-only offering for users 18 and over; student accounts are not part of it.

    Setup and Administration

A separate setup guide for district technology leaders and IT staff says an authorized administrator applies with a school or district email, accepts the K-12 terms, and completes verification through Anthropic’s partner Goodstack. The administrator verifies the email domain with a DNS record, after which seats open and the free first-year plan applies automatically. Staff on a school or district organization receive the full Enterprise product, including Claude on web, desktop, and mobile plus Claude Code, Cowork, and Claude Design, along with the K-12 teaching plugin and the Learning Commons connector.

    New Teaching Skills and Resources

Anthropic said it is adding two new teaching skills co-developed with Learning Commons: a lesson-preparation skill that helps plan for key moments of an upcoming lesson, and a check-for-understanding skill that builds short standards-aligned checks, available for math at launch. The company said it also made accessibility upgrades to student-facing materials and added a lesson-preparation step to its lesson-planning skill.

Anthropic updated its Claude for K-12 Academy, which offers free AI-fluency content including courses, guides, and classroom workflows for teachers, coaches, and district teams. The company said it publishes its teaching skills as public goods for developers building for teachers, and that this fall it is piloting an evaluation of Claude for Teachers in the Detroit Public Schools Community District to study the impact on educator wellbeing and practice.

U.S. K-12 school and district leaders can verify their district and get started through Anthropic’s Claude for Teachers page.
