Lenovo is taking its ThinkBook family below the one-kilogram mark with the new ThinkBook 14x Gen 2, a 14-inch ultraportable that weighs just 990 grams (2.18 pounds) and measures only 12.9mm thick.

Those numbers are the main story here. The ThinkBook 14x Gen 2 is one of the thinnest and lightest ThinkBook laptops Lenovo has produced, putting it firmly into the premium ultraportable category rather than the more conventional business-laptop territory occupied by most ThinkBooks.

The laptop is powered by Intel Core 7 Series 3 processors. During my briefing, Lenovo described the new Intel platform as more efficient than the previous generation and said that efficiency should translate into better battery life. Lenovo has not provided an actual battery-runtime claim for this model, however, so we cannot yet quantify that improvement.

The ThinkBook 14x Gen 2 also differs from the Snapdragon-powered ThinkBook 14 Gen 9 in its priorities. While Lenovo heavily emphasizes the 80-TOPS NPU and AI capabilities on the Snapdragon system, the 14x Gen 2 focuses more on portability, industrial design, and everyday performance.

Lenovo will offer OLED display options, alongside an optional LCD touchscreen configuration. The company has not disclosed complete resolution, brightness, or refresh-rate specifications in the press material provided for the announcement, so those details remain to be confirmed.

The exterior is also more colorful than the average business laptop. Lenovo plans four finishes: Luna Grey, Celestial White, Mystic Violet, and Veil Blue.

Another interesting point came up during my briefing: Lenovo described the new ThinkBook as repairable despite its extremely thin construction. That is potentially significant because making laptops thinner often means integrating or soldering more components and making internal access more difficult.

Lenovo has not provided an iFixit score or a detailed list of replaceable components for this model, however, so we will need to see the internal design before judging how repairable it actually is.

At 990 grams, the ThinkBook 14x Gen 2 is considerably lighter than many conventional 14-inch laptops while still providing a full-size notebook form factor. That could make it particularly attractive to users who spend a lot of time moving between meetings, airports, offices, and hotels and care more about carrying weight than maximum performance.

The interesting question will be what Lenovo had to compromise to reach 12.9mm and 990g, particularly in battery capacity, cooling, connectivity, and sustained processor performance.

The Lenovo ThinkBook 14x Gen 2 is expected in Q1 2027, with a starting price of $999.99.
